Jeremie success in Central Europe
According to the latest statistics of EVCA, Hungary is at the 6th place on the list of countries with Jeremie fund investments compared to the size of their GDP. Levente Zsembery, director of Biggeorge’s-NV Equity has commented the report’s findings to Insider blog: the Jeremie program in Hungary has fulfilled its goals and accelerated the financing of startups. Of course, the broader aim is to catch up with Western European levels not only in relative but also in absolute terms. It is very likely that the upcoming Jeremie II program will give an additional boost to the Budapest startup scene.
Czider’s cider conquers the UK
After their success at the Budapest Startup Underground (SUU) event, girls of the Czider team are to conquer the home of the traditional „apple wine”. Out of 17 contenders of its category Czider’s unique product was the only one produced outside the UK – and finished on the 4th place! The success proves that it is truly possible to create a first-class product in Central Europe, despite it does not have its traditions yet. The initiative is a great potential source of revenue for local apple growers too.
Fujitsu spin-off develops hand scanners
Hungarian ex-Fujitsu engineers have spun-off their own firm, Houdini Engineering that specializes in developing hand scanners. Combining their own software with Fujitsu’s biometric technology, the founders are convinced that the new technology will revolutionize security business. The project has been running for two years now. Houdini’s solution is nimbler and more accurate than currently existing body-part scanners. The first device has already been installed at the headquarters of the Hungarian National Innovation Office.
Webee, a Budapest-based tech-startup participated at the prestigious Seedcamp event on May 15 in Berlin. The company has already won the Barcamp web 2.0 competition. At Seedcamp more than a 100 mentors (among them Acel Partcers, Facebook, PayPal, Index Ventures, Sunstone Capital) help the contenders. Webee is an online social platform that combines different sources of media contents. They are the sixth team from Hungary (after Prezi.com, Joobili, HealthMash, Mixgar, and Antavo) that were invited to the contest.
Another great co-working place is opened in Budapest by DBH Serviced Office in GreenPoint7 center. The modern office building is situated in Budapest’s historic downtown area and features an extraordinary interior design. According to Kristóf Bárány, director of DBH Serviced Office the intention was to create a unique office environment. Apart from certain functions, they designed an interior space which creates a positive and pleasant atmosphere for co-workers.
